Gregg krogstad

Gregg Krogstad is one of those rare Seattle natives. A graduate of Pomona College, then the University of Washington, he studied sculpture and photography. Heavily influenced by Ansel Adams, Gregg attended one of his famous Yosemite workshops to meet the grand master. The following year he studied with Oliver Gagliani, another giant in black and white art photography.

In 1980, Gregg opened his first studio in Seattle and began a long career working with Seattle’s architects, builders, and designers. Twenty-eight years later he is still providing high quality images to the architectural community, has helped them win numerous awards and has been published in a wide variety of magazines.

Whenever possible Gregg pursues his personal loves – travel and the elusive, sacred photograph with his pinhole camera.

“There has always been for me a sense of discovery and adventure connected with photography. These images are an extension of that belief. They were created using a hand made pinhole camera, distant cousin of the ‘camera oscura’ invented by Galileo. There is no lens, no viewfinder, just a small box, a hand activated shutter, and a pinhole in a piece of brass. With this crude device I have spent many days wandering the streets of Rome, Paris, Venice, Madrid and elsewhere, creating photographs when that Zen like moment of place, time, chance and subject matter.”
