Jess Bronk
Jess Bronk -Twilight

March 5th- April 30th 2009

Evoking feelings of stillness and serenity, Jess's work lures the viewer to question what may be hidden. Inspired by her world travel and the northwest's natural landscape, each painting conveys the beauty and soul of earth's silent guardians with haunting timelessness.

Show runs through April 30th .

Artist Statement
Most of my paintings utilize the twilight landscape to create a transient, hidden environment. I enjoy adding my own twists to harmony, creating a conundrum, making something that is exquisite yet slightly unsettling.

Painting is a way of visually analyzing and seeking balance, and then deliberately foiling that balance before it gets too comfortable. I feel the creation of a composition is a king of visual questioning, the answers never lasting, but in the end each painting realizes its own entity.

Inspiration comes from the vast range of natural beauty that I've experienced in my life. The trees of Italy and Spain, my own photography, and that of others, have informed my work. Artist such as Gerhard Richter, Ed Ruscha, and Ad Reinhardt, as well as Japanese wood block prints, have moved me to this creative expression.

Jess Bronk received her Bachelor of FIne Arts in Painting and Drawing at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. SHe was raised in rural Wisconsin, and as a child spent countless hours in the woods and fields, absorbing the beauty surrounding her. Her work today is colored by her solitary experiences in the outdoors of Wisconsin.

Jess was attracted to the natural beauty of the Northwest and has lived in Portland, Oregon since 2001.
