September-GARY GROVES
Gary is a Bainbridge Island artist who creates woodcut prints focused on the Northwest landscape. Gary’s work toys with traditional notions of abstract and representational renderings. Through both subject matter and technique, Gary speaks of man’s relationship with his natural surroundings. In his work, Gary relies on experience as a sculptor as he incorporates texture and form into each piece.
“I want to walk that line between representational and abstract in the images. I see this as a way to point out aspects of the ordinary landscape that perhaps have been overlooked. I am always searching for a way of making the experience of viewing the landscape a little more special.”
-Gary Groves
Gary's work will be on display at NWFW through October, 2008. |
